BIG FIGHT THIS WEEK
LOUIS-MAURIELLO BOUT "BROWN BOMBER" FIT Joe Louis, heavyweight boxing champion of the world, will for the second time this year defend his ■title, this time against Tami Mauriello, at New York to-mor-row. (Thursday New Zealand time) . Latest reports say that Louis, who has had a short spell since he defeated Billy Conn, is in good nick, and it would not be surprising if he had an easy win. Mauriello is really a good boxer, but whether he is up to the Brown Bomber's standard is doubtful. Stevens Back in Form Roy Stevens, after being ill for some time, is now back in training and looking fit and well. Stevens is giving very promising displays and is to meet Bos Murphy at Auckland on October 7. Brown Improving Billy Brown, the young Wellington boxer who recently scored a points victory over Percy Kelly, is iaid to be improving with every xnatch and should make a name for himself in the near future. Since nis release from the Air Force he has been all out to gain physical Atness', which he lost while in the service. In his last six flghts he has oeen defeated only once and that was by Bobby Fuller, of Australia. World Title Holders Eleven meh are alive to-day who have held the world's heavyweight championship title. They are Tommy Burns, Jess Williard, J. J. Jefferies, Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, Jack Sharkey, Max Schmeling, Primo Carnera, Max Baer, J. J. Braddock and the present holder, Joe Louis.
