WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
OTAKI'S SEPTEMBER MEETING The September meeting of the Otaki Women 's Institute was heid in the Anglican Hall on Thursday afternoon. There was a good attendance of members. The meecing opened with the singing of the institute song. The president, Mrs. Lumley, welcomed all members and visitors. Three new members were also welcomed, Mesdames Andrews, Lea and Summers. It was arranged to hold a street stall on October 4, this is to be the institute's effort for the . wai memorial hall. Mrs. Synnott gave a report on the War Memorial Committee's activities. Being members day, Miss Mills and Mrs. Calwell took over the afternoon's programme. The roll call brought forth many amusing children 's sayings, wliile Miss Lea rendered a very pleasing vocal solo. A drawing competition followed which caused much amusement. In connection with the recent drama festival, the co-producers, Mrs. Harrington and Miss Mills, vvere presented with a bouquet of dowers by the president, who ^xpressed the great appreciation :elt by the members for their antiring work through the months ,~f preparation, and congratulated cliem on the exeellent placing of the Otaki entries in the festival, due to the painstaking coaching received at their hands. A very dainty afternoon tea was then served by the liostesses, Mesdames Skinner, Stevensc/n, Stansfield, Nicolson, Lumley and Miss Mills. The winners of the competitions were as follows:- — Best fiower, Mrs. Berry; best shrub, Mrs. Berry; patch work cushion, Mrs. Allaiy. A very pleasant afternoon was brought to a close with the singing of the National A-nthem.
