HORSES STAMPEDE INTO CAR

Three young draught horses and a light English motor-car were 1 involved in a collision on the main highway about a mile south of Waikanae yesterday afternoon. Breaking out of a paddock and rtampeding north along the highway, the horses were wildly galioping up a rise in the road when uhey met the car coming up the other side.Two women occupants, believed to be residents of Plimmerton, saw ihe horses in time to stop the car. The horses, however, careered on, eolliding heavily with the car. One m its friglit leaped at the vehicle, smashing the radiator, bonnet, windscreen and part of the roof. Another kicked out at the car, shuctenng a giass side winaow. One of Ihe women received cuts from flying glass, and both were suffering from snock when taken into a resident's house for treatment. Later ihey were driven to Plimmerton in a taxicab. The horses were badly cut and bruised in the encounter, and gave i good deal of trouble before they could be rounded up.
