Rcpresentatives of the squatters fi'pni Ihe Duciiess of Bedford'a house, Poun tain Uourt, and the Ivanhoe Hotel at tcnded a mass demonstration in Hyde Park orgauised by Communists, after. whieh .1000 sympathisers marched through the West End to Leicester Square. .Mounted police headed and followed the jirocession whieh was noisy but ordcrly. The inarchers carried bannerx calling for the requisition of empfcy mansions and luxury flatsl They shouted slogans: "Stand by the Squattere. ' ' and " Stop Black Market Repairs! " The rector of Marylebone (Rev. Hugh Matthews; accepted an invitation to conduct a service for the Abbey Lodg" squatters. II e said afterwards that there were about 100 people iuside the building All were sleeping on bare boards. They seeiued fairly happy, but their situation was verv difiieult.
