Big New Power Line

Survey work is practically finished and a start has been made with the cutting of tracks over rough country for the 220,000-volt main transmission line whieh is to be built down the centre of the North Island by 1Q49-50 in readiness to carry the power load generated at the Maraetai hydroelectrie station, due to come into operation in 1950-51. This is the biggest transmission project ever planned in New Zealand and the new system wili have double the capacity of the existing transmission lines. The new line wili start at Otahuhu, run direct to the Whakamaru power station and thence straight through the centre of the North Island to Bunnythorpe.
