TRAPPED IN BURNING HOUSE

CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. •13. One man has died and an 11-year-old bov lies in hospital seriously injured as the result of being trapped in a burning house at Phillipstown lasl night,. Both were in bed when the fire broke out before 10 o'elock. The boy was rescued through the front window by his sister and neighbours. The man was carried out from his fiaming bedroom by firemen. The victims were: — Dead Mr. John Robinson, aged 74, of 24 Hoon Hay Road. Injured. Charles Cooper, of 436 St. Asapli Street, where the fire oecurred. Mr. Robinson was uneonscious when he was found lying on the fioor of his bedroom. He had evidently made some attempt to escape from the house, bui had succumbed to smoke and heat. He was admitted to the public hospital. suft'ering from severe burns and shoek, an'd was placed on tlie seriously ill list. He died at 6.50 a.m. today. The boy suffered severe burns to his faee and arms. He was placed on the seriously ill list last night, and his con dition was reported this afternoon to be unchauged. Mr. Robinson and Cooper were the only ones in the house when the fire started.
