BIOGRAPHY OF STARS
ANN SHERIDAN A FRODIGY "" J Ann's name isn't Ann. It is Clara j Lou and she was called "Lootie" . during her school days. She was ] born on February 15, 1915, in j Dallas,- stands 5ft. 5in. tall and weighs 118 pounds. She danced and sang at the age of six and was considered a prodigy but would like to forget that now. A product of Texas, she was a student at State Teachers College there when, unknown to her, her sister entered her picture in a movie studio's "Search for Beauty" contest. She was one of the winners and went to Hollywood for keeps. After some free lance work, she was signed by Warner Bros. in 1937 to appear in "The Great O'Malley." Then followed a career as the "oomph girl" and increasingly important roles. Her recent pictures include "King's Row," "The Man Who Came to Dinner," "Juke Girl," "Wings for the Eagle," "George Washington Slept Here," "Edge of Darkness" and "Shine on Harvest Moon." It is pretty well established in Hollywood tbat a beauty contest winner has little chance of making good in pictures. A meagre few have risen from the ranks of contest winners. Mary Astor did, so did Joan Blondell and Norma Shearer. And so did Ann Sheridan, to prove that you can't keep an "Oomph" girl down. The next important picture for Ann is "Tfie Sentenee," opposite Robert Al^a (of "Rhapsody in Blue") and newcomer Kent Smith.
