WOMAN REFUSES TO GIVE EVIDENCE
Received Mondav, 11 p.m. MELBOURNE, Sept. 9. A woman who refused to give evidence at an inquest at Geelong today in what is known as the Barwon River case, was charged with contempt of Court and committed in custody until tomorrow when the inquest will be resumed. The woman was Mrs. Cherie Evelyn Morris, wife of Horatio Raymond Morris, who,. with Edward George Carr, is charged with the murder of William Stewaid Sheargold and Ernest Frederick Dew whose - bodies were taken from the Barwon River near Geelong on July 14. The iiiquest had been proceeding several days when Mrs. Morris was called this morning. She refused to answer questions either by the Police Inspector or Coroner, even after being warned by the Coroner that he could take action to compel her to ansWer. The Coroner granted an adjournment until t'he afternoon to permit her to consult 4ier-solicit-or. When the inquest resumed she still reljused ori the ground that she might incriminate herself. The inquest was then adjonrned until tomorrow.
