PLANES REPLACING CARS The latest English business house to switch over to air transport is a Manchester firm of industrial engineers. It has announced that it is replaeing its cars with a £20,000 fleet of planes so that its team of servicing engineers can cope with the 500*0 calls it gets yearly, involving thousands of miles of travel. Tkis is the latest conversion to air transport by a British business house. More than 42 firms in England now have staff planes used by .air executives and salesmen, inspectors and engineers. The Manchester film is G. Brady, Ltd., who are acquiring five three-seater Auster Autocrats, which will be the first civil planes to be stationed on that city's new £1,000,000 airport at Ringway. What is remarkable is the speed with which it is progressing. It is only a year since the United Kingdom aircraft industry was able to divert even part of its attention from construction of war machines. Yet within these twelve months it has produced a wide range of new aircraft, from huge ocean airliners to two-seater taxis, meeting every type of civilian requirement.
