YOU CAN AGE WITH BEAUTY
"After thirty-five put youthful fashion notions definitely behind you. Keep that thought uppermost at all times," says M.-G.-M. actress, Mary Astor. Flufflness is out, while smartness (with emphasis upon the soignee, tidy, groomed look) is vital. Keep your make-up restrained. So many older women lose their eye for colour and slap on the rouge, over-emphasise the lipstick, smearing it too widely, and sometimes powder so much, and with such light powder, that they might as well have fallen into a fiour barrel ! The hair-do becomes more irnportant as the years pile up, and the smoother it is, the bettef. A wide-browed look is preferable. The actress says she notices a good many older woman who seem to try to hide their age with their hair, wearing it close around the jawline, etc. She feels that this is a mistake. Same goes for hats too. Don't use them to hide under, but to frame your face and forehead. Set a style for yourself in clothes, and stick to it. Miss Astor says she always keeps to tailored suits, and to an almost uniform type of tailored dinner dress, and for colour clianges uses bright blouses. Exercise and diet become more irnportant as "time goes by." Too many older women seem to think foundation garments will take the place of judicious eating and physical exercise. Miss Astor warns that with the years it becomes increasingly hard to whip yourselt to do the daily dozen of stretching and limbering exercises — -but, she adds. nothing will ever really take their place in the beauty schedule.
