(SPECIAL— FROM
WELLINGTON, This Day. Attractive fields are carded for the opening day of the Wanganui Jockey Club's spring meeting to-morrow, among the runners being candidates for the Wanganui Guineas, to be decided on the second day. Their showing will be watched with interest in the hope of gaining some guide as to their Guineas' prospect. At the moment the ruling favourite for the Guineas is Julius Ceasar. The Avondale Jockey Club also opens its spring meeting tomorrow, where again large fields are engaged, provision having had to be made to run the Trial Handicap in three divisioris. At Wingatui the Otago Hunt Club will conduct its single day fixture. Reports from Wanganui and Auckland indicate that the tracks are in good order after recent rain, but at Wingatui it is likely to be a little on the dead side. Win and place betting operates at all the meetings.
