GREAT POPULARITY GAINED j Indoor basketball has gained . immense popularity in Otaki this ; season and has provided over 100 ^ players with a healthy sport, and " one of the finest of recreations. There are 15 teams in the corripetitions and the local ass'ociation is to be commended for the work it is doing to give the young, people, an interesting and healthy game. It is to be hoped that people will. realise just how much good, both physicaily and mentaliy, the players derive from any sport, and give them the support they deserve. In the last game of the ladies' ahampionship Aces A defeated Checkers in one of the best contests seen this season. The scorc was even until half-time. but in 1 the second spell Aces gradually drew ahead to win by 20—8. Checkers did well to be runners-up, as this is their first year, and by next season they will be one of the hardest teams to beat. In the men's championship Aces ■had a hard time keeping their lead in the championship ' points, and were almost displaced by Eagles and Railways. In both games there was little- diiference , between the teams, but Aces ' mana'ged to hold their place alid won * the championship with Eagles ae runners-up. Thc knock-out final betwebn Raukawa A and Rnilways was a good game, but Railways Were .never in danger and won well. The points in the ladies' ccmpetition are: Aces A 26, Checkers 24, Rovers 20. Aces B 16. Ohwkece 10, Raukawa 8, Colts 4, Textiles 4 and Checks 0. The points in the men's competition are: Aces 18, Eagles 16. Railways 12, Raukawa A 6, Raukawa B 6 and Paslimes 4. Knock-out: Winner.s. R-iihvays.
