RAUMATI CLUB (Contributed) Bowlers have much in common with fishermen. Prior to the opening of a new season bowls will be taKen out and handled, those shoes will be looked over with a critical eye, last year's duster may be spurned, flannels and blazer will be turned over for mum's expert attention, but that "Old Hat' ?^— wcll, that is treading on holy ground. Ycs! lt lnt.ans tne long winter is drawing to a close and Ihe old familiar phrase "beautiful shot" will soon be echoing across the green. Saturday, October 5. is the day. The grcen: Our green superintcndcnt is becoming a stranger m his omi home, but wc feel sure that Ihe playing qualities of the green for the" forthcoming season wili amply reward him. He requires assistance, soil has to be prepared for Ihe final top dressing, seats and elubhouse to be repainted, surrounds clcaned up, and there is a spot of concreting to be done. Work. there is plenty of it. A working bee is called for every k'nciay and Saturday afternoon until opening day: conie along for a couple of hours, you* are assured of a .job. Our -club must progress eaeh yea'r. Match committee: Thcse members have put in some great work during the reccss in order to make ihis year's games more pleasant, ncw rules have been formulated covering all local conditions, A percentage game extending over the whole season will be introdue.ed. Members have been regraded, the liandicaps are ready, if you don't enjoy this year's play it will not be the fault of your match committee. Bowls: It is essential that all bowls bear the 1940 or subsequent stamp. If your bowls do not conform to this rulc. advisc the secretary; he is arranging for all untested bowls to be forwarded to Wellington together. Remember the N.Z.B.A. tournamcnt will.be held in the Wellington district this vear. There will oe an influx of visitors from every part of New Zealand. All local bowlers will take .a particular pricle in doing e.verything possibi e to make their own club outstanding. They will achiqve this ,by their ;attitude of friendlinesk, ' courtesy and hospitality fo ajl ; visitors.- oy Uie well-kcpt appearanc'C'of their •grounds and clubhoiise. as- well as the playing quality of their green.
