THIEVES BAILED UP
Received Tuesdav, 9.20 p.m. ' SYDNEY, Sept. 3. After firing at a man who had broken into citv premises, the night watchman bailed up five men he found sitting in a car outside and held tlieni until the police arrived. The watchman saw two cars draw up outside the premises which he was guarding. Tlie men left Ihe car.s and one climbed tlie grille. The watclunan found him in tlie act of forcing the front door. On being cliallenged, the man turned and r.an and the watclunan tired at him. Outside he saw olliers trying to get the c.ars started and as he approached, tlie man he lired at and an aliorigine woman broke away. ITe held the others at pistol point until a'constable appeared. They -were later cliarged and remanded. A blood-stained handkerehief in the street suggested that the escaped man jvaa yyounded.
