Conditions were tho best they havo been. for some' weeks, and the outside of the course proptir and the piough traek were available for fast work. The Croupier mare looks inuch more solid than formerly and is expectod to raee well at Wanganui. Czarina (Buclianan) and Ited Foil (Keid) wero associated over five furlongs in 1.7 2-5, the iirst' two taking 2G 2-5see. Ineision (Rout) showed that lie had taken nu harm from his raee at Foxton by reeling off three furlougs in 39 4-5 see. It wili not be for laelt of eoudition if lie fails to raee prominently next Saturday. On the eourse proper, Insulate (W. J. Broughton) did not irupress while running six furlongs in 1.2(5 '4-5. Newel I'ost ( Christensen) moved a trifle short while covenng live furlongs in 1.17 2-5. Lady Burford (Clutterbuck) and Lady Barrington (..lenkinsj wero companions over half a uiile, the last three furlongs being run in 42 8-5see. The foriner, a two-year-ohl winner last season, has ■ wintered well and gives promise of beuig lhore 'thail a Oseful performer. Sten is a four-year-old gelding by Battle Song from Brineess Doreen and is to liave his Iirst" raee at Wanganui on Saturday. Gohlen Casket, a four-year-old lialfbrother to Gohlcu Wings by Broiefort, wus sprinted a eoujile of furlongs from ;i barrier sturt and acquitted himself well. He has been in work for some time and has displayed plenty of galloping ability. Goldon Casket will make his Iirst appearauee in the Alaiuen lvuee at Wanganui on Saturday.
