Personal Mr. Mervyn Coley and Mr. Donald Sims, of Wellington, were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. Roberts, Vogel Street. Mr. H. Pope, of the Shannon Dairy Company's staff, is confined to his bed on account of illness. His friends wish lli'm a speedy recovery. Mrs. Beale and Miss N. Beale. of Woodville, were visitors to Shannon over the week-end, where theywere the guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. Richards, Grand Street. The friends of Mrs. L. Payne, Grey Street, will be pleased to hear that her infant daughter, who was taken by ambulance to hospital on Sunday and underwent an operation later in the day, is now reported to be progressing favourably. The death occurred suddenly at Tokomaru on Saturday_ last of Frederick Norman Eade, who was well known in the district. The late Mr. Eade was a brother of Mrs. Oscar Larsexr. of Tokomaru and formerly of Shannon. Fine Local Effort The special appe'al in the food ior Britain campaign was brought to a ciose on Saturday and Shannon's effort was quite good. During ohe period of the weck's campaign conducted throughout New Zealand oy the National Famine Emergency Committee, Shannon contributed 725 meat coupons and 28 butter coupons. It is interesting to note uhat the Palmerston North district registered a splendid performance oy finishing in second piace for the Dominion.
