WORLD WRESTLING TITLE

Spectator)

SEXTON'S CLAIM EXPLODED WALTER MILLER INDIGNANT

(By

It was stated recently that there was some doubt as> to whether Jim Londos was the World's title holder. Walter Miller then niade a statement which utterly drowns Frank Sexton's claim for the title. Miller says that Frank Sexton, whom many people claim as the world champion, is nothing more than a "hack" compared with Londos. Babe Sharkey, who is said to have 'oeaten Londos, is described as a wash-out-punch-drunk fighter. Miller goes on to say that any of the wrestlers at present in New Zealand could beat him by ten falls in an hour. The promoter seems to be very annoyed with anyone who claims Sexton the champ, but actually when all is said and done, he should be the best judge of who is the holder and Miller's word can be taken as final by the mat fans. In continuing with his statement, Miller says that he will give anyone £2000 if they can prove that Jim Londos has been mastered since he beat Bronco Nagurski in 1938. "The idea of matching Babe Sharkey with Londos is just too funny for words," says Miller. Eaii McCready also backs Miller in saying that Londos has. never been beaten in a title bout. New Arrivals Soon During the next three weeks there will be many changes among the overseas wrestlers and new arrivals are expected soon. Jack Claybourne has left for Australia, where he wiil continue wrestling until the end of the season. He will most likely return next season. Claybourne was a very agile grappler, and was chiefly noted for his famous drop kick. He was a clean wrestler and it was very rare to see him break the rules. He should be a success in Australia and will nave no trouble in gaining supporters. Herb Meller has built up an impressive record and up to the time of writing has yet to be defeated. Meller is one of the few who still wrestle in long black tights. Promising New Zealander The Wellington professional wrestler, Jack Prestney, is one of New Zealand's most promising grapplers and should soon gain fame if he continues to participate in the sport. He is scientific and has a good knowledge of holds. He never breaks the rules and is specialising in the giant swing. Many mat fans have the idea that the giant swing is quite an easy hold to secure and that it does not require a great arnount of strength. This idea is definitely wrong because it is a very difficuii matter to secure a man your own weight, lift him up. off the mat and then swing himiaround. It is possible however to secure this hold more easily when the opponent is dazed, for example, after a barrage of elbow jolts or after a dump. When the hold is secured the opponent may as well give in, as he usually is unconscious to what happehs after the swing starts. In one case recently the hold failed to secure a fall, and this was because it had not been applied properly.
