FOURBALL BEST BALL MATCH CLOSE SCORING RESULTS The Levin Qolf Club's scheduied fixture for last Saturday was a f oursome match, but this . was changed to a fourball best-ball bogey match. Thirty-six players competed and the winners were A. E. Hastedt and H. Black, who returned an excellent winning card of four up on bogey. Closely following were two club veterans', H. Nicholson and W. Bull, who also combined well to score three up. The only other pair to head off "Colonel Bogey" were T. J. Coutie and L. S. Carmichael, with a card showing one up. Following are the detailed scores: A. E. Hastelt and H. Black four up, H. Nicholson and W. Bull three up, T. J. Coutie and L. S. Carmichael one up, W. S. Ogier and S. C. Franklin square, H. W. S. Walker and C. M. Wallace one down, A. Nicolls and D. E. Clark one down, C. G. Munro and W. C. Cliilds one down, H. D. Richards and J. N. Sams one down, B. J. Eager and J. S. Dickinson two down, F. E. Langelan and H. Bull two down, H. F. McClune and W. G. Clark three down, W. H. Walker and J. S. Tomlinson three down, H. Foley and J. E. Fullarton four down, E. J. Watts and J. Todd five down. Next Saturday's Match The match to be played next Saturday afternoon will be a teams match. This is always a welcome break from the usual routine of medal and bogey rounds. As this particular match will be arranged by the club captain and secretary from selected teams, keen rivalry will be the order of the day. The draw for play will be at 1.5 p.m. Professional's Visit Members in both the men's and ladies' sections are again reminded that the list for further coaching lessons is posted on the main notice board in the clubhouse. As the professional (Mr. Wa-tts) will be here again in about three weeks' time, a full list of intending pupils is desired by this time so that time arrangements may be made accordingly. It will be the final visit of the season. Championship Play Play in both senior and junior grades advanced a further stage over the week-end. The remaining games in the top half of the draw m the respective matches were played. In the senior grade, D. E. Clark and S. C. Franklin staged a battle royal to qualify for the final game. Both players were in top form and low scoring was a feature of the match. Clark, after a period of an entire absence of form, staged an opportune comeback to play below his handicap and record a two up win, his opponent fighting back to take the game to the last green.' This now places Clark in the final. He will play the winner of the O.C. Lagor — D. C. Hlll match on September 15. In the semi-finals of the junior series, H. Black earned a wellmerited win over H. W. S. Walker during the week-end. He will play S. F. Atkins for the final. The two finalists have been playing very consistent golf during the season, and the final, to be played on September 15, is sure to provoke lively interest. Club Activities Despite the wet spell of weather that local golfers have had to contend with over the last six weeks, the links are standing up well to the heavy demands made on them. The attendances are still being maintained, and every week-end has shown that golf is proving as popular winter sport locally as elsewhere throughout the country. From a working angle, the upkeep and maintenance of any golf club is a heavy burden, particularly when the course is only a nine hole one and space congested. The local club is indeed fortunate in that it has an energetic committee, headed by Mr. H. J. Hughes, to keep the links in playable condition. Owing to the heavy nature of the soil it is not. .always possible to arrange fairway cutting, etc., when needed, but with better weather the links should prove equal in pla.ying conditions to those of any other club in the district. As the greenkeeper was able to cut the fairways during last week, this had a heartening effect on all last week's contestants in the fourball game. Scoring generally was on a more even scale than for some time past. Aided by a perfect golfing day, all players thoroughly enjoyed their first Saturday without rain. It was pleasing to see two of the club's oldest members, H. Nicholson and W. Bull, stage a comeback to something like their oid form on Saturday. These two players have in past years often proved their worth in both club and inter-club fixtures, and with the passing of

the years have maintained their attendances to a marked degree. In this same category, mention may also be made of Frank Langelan, Prof. F. P. Wilson, C. R. Hosie, H. F. McClune, H. J. Hughes and D. P. Todd, all worthy members, who have assisted the club over the many years of its existence, and who, though now unable to concede many strokes to their younger. opponents, are still regular ' attenders and worthy opponents.
