The! eommittee recommended to a special meeting of the eouncil that the Government be asked to reconsider the matter and to allow a salary of £2000 to be otfefed. In the eommittee 's opinion the lower salary was not sufficient to attract suitable applicants and it considered the eouncil should notjnake an appointment in the meantime. The eommittee, in a further resolu-ti-on which was app/oved, recommended that the eouneil express its regret that the Government had not agreed to the maxinium salarie« proposed for. professors and senior lecturers and associato professors.
