£600 STOLEN FROM SAFE

AUCKLAND, Sept. 2. About £600 in casli, most of it being last week's bar takings, was stolen from the safe in the Alexandra Hotel, Parnell, this afternoon. The robbcrv was discovered bv Mrs. H. Edser, wife of the proprietor, at 7 o'elock when she went to put away the dav's takings. A gohl watch valued at £14, the property oi' the proprietor, was also taken by the thief. Mr. Edser said the intruder had apparently found the kev to the safe which stood on a tahle beside the bed in liis room on the lirst floor of the hotel. There were two keys to the safe, one of which he had in his possession. The other had been mislaid. Fsuallv the previous week's takings were hankfd on Monday, but this was one of the rare occasions on which this had not beeu Uoue.
