BRITAIN'S THANKS FOR FOOD

PLANE DROPS LEAFLETS OVER LEVIN Flying between 100 and 200 feet, a Corsair fighter of the R.N,ZvA,F^ fitted with a long range belly tank,

swept low over Levin at lunch time yesterday and dropped leaflets. A split-second delay on the part of the pilot caused the leaflets, dropped over the gas works, to drift with the fresh easterly breeze, so that they all fell in the residential area about a quartermile west of the railway station. The flight is associated with the visit of the Lancaster Aries. It was originally intended that the Aries drop the leaflets, but 1 because of the great deal of extra navigational equipment carried, the Lancaster's interior is some-

what congested, and leaflets could not be carried and dropped without the removal of some equipment. Headed "a message of gratitude from the Aries," the leaflet contained an expression from the British Minister of Food, Mr. John Strachey, to the Prime Minister, voicing the appreciation of the people and Government of the United Kingdom for what New Zealand has done in providing :toodstaff5 ifdr :-Bjritain..:. . jChje.. tfiessage ' qdhcrucfed" w "Please . cpnjVfey. to' the ; N^tihnal Famifie .Btnerieifcy v;pqnii#ttee tHer 5, 5 our thanks for ^ what they, are ' doing towards this end."
