HOROWHENUA THIRDS BEATEN

WELLINGTON TOO STRONG The curtain-raiser to the junior final on the Levin Domain on Saturday, between Wellington ancl Horowhenua third grade representative sides, was disappointing in a small degree in that the game was inclned to drag at times. The Wellington back-line was far supenor to the Horowhenua set, and the Wellington boys threw the ball around freely and accurately. Cleland, the Wellington second-five-eighth, was a tower of strength to his team and he often broke through the Horowhenua line with a nice swerve and a cut-in. Gwynn, the Horowhenua second - fiveeighth, also played an exceilent game, and was responsible for many of Horowhenua 's brilliant moves. In the forwards, Judd was the most prominent as he was at all times on the ball and leading the pack in attacking movements. The teams were;. — Horowhenua: Parsons, Giles, Ropata, Lind, Gwynn, Cameron, Stratton, Anderson, Lycette, Stannard, Fox, McClune, Judd, Irwin and Southey. Wellington: Hodson, Tait, Ban-

nister, Leckie, Cleland, Henderson, Mallinder, Catt, Smith, Kilpatrick, Dean, Lindsay, Baker, Stewart-and Myers. Horowhenua opened play and a penalty was awarded Horowhenua, where the ball was taken for an infringement. Stratton took the ,:ick but failed. Hard play took place and the Wellington backs were proving to be a danger with their fast and open passing. During one of the Wellington back moves, Judd intercepted a pass and croke through. He made the run from just on the halfway line, and just managed to score with the Wellington full-back hanging on nis back. Stratton's kick went wide. Horowhenua 3, Wellington 0. Soon after the Wellington second-five-eighth, Cleland, cut through and scored. He converted his own fcry, the ball hitting the upright and bouncing over. Wellington 5, Horowhenua 3. Wellington forced back to the Horowhenua line and once again cleland cut through and scored in a handy position. His kick brought ihe score to Wellington 10, Horowhenua . 3, which remained unchanged until half time. After the spell the Wellington backs opened up the game and threw the ball around quite freely. From a set scrum the ball travelled along the Wellington back line to Tait, 011 the wing, who raced over well out. A good kick by Cleland brought the score to Wellington 15, Horowhenua 3. The most spectacular and final try of the match was scored by Henderson, the Wellington first-five-eighth. The ball came out of the scrum to him and on gathering it in, he swerved and cut in to go over in a- handy position, making the final score Wellington 18, Horowhenua 3. Mr.,B. Boyd was the referee.
