THE HERM1TAGE, Sept. 1. P. F. Lawlor, Wellington member of the Aorangi Hki Club, vroii thn 1946 Dominion ski cliampionship at Ball hut, Mt. Cook, on Saturday. The women 's title wns won by Miss Helen D. Alan«on, Owhango, Nationnl Park. The downhill race over two miles, with a 2000 feet vOrtical descent, was lieid o.n Saturday in excellent weatlief. The majority of the North Island competitors found the soft snow unlike the uorthern racing eonditions, consequently their times were not so good as for Ihe s'lalom. A. G. Wigley '(Timaru) 3935 Dominion champion, eollided with another competitor and frnctured a bone in his face, necessitating hospital treatxnent. The mishap undoubtedly robbed him of the title as his time, until them, was well ahead of all other competitors. He missed the course, winning second plaee both in the downhill und Dominion champlonship. Tlie women 's downhill, approximately half the men 's course, was won by Mrs. C. Gilkison (Otago). Miss Ruth Adams (Christchurch) wns second. The men'S jump and men's langlanf, commonly known as the cross country race, are still to be held but are not counting in the Dominion title points.
