METHODIST LADIES' GUILD
AUGUST MEETING HELD The usual monthly meeting of the Methodist Ladies' Guild wa? held at the Parsonage on Thursday last. The meeting. opened with the siflging of a hymn, followed by a prayer, led by the Rev. H. S. Kings. At the request of the GUild FelIowship, the Rev. H. S. Kings -g'ave a very inspiring and interesting address on the evils of moderate and tolerant drinking. A welcome was extended to Mrs. G. Syder from Dunedin. Business in connection with the victory bazaar, to be held in October, was discussed-. Interesting letters from England were read. They were :from recipierits of food parcels sent by the guild, express'ing their sincere thanks. Symphthy was- expressed to Mrs. J. W. Hayfleld in the ill'ness- of her nusband. 1 A competition was held for the best novelty and best faney article. Prizes were won by Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Kennerley. Mrs, S. Parsons, who acted as judge, was presehted with a posy. Afternoon tea was provided by Mesdames :Foster and Burnham. Thanks to Mrs.- Kings and the Benediction ;concluded the meeting.
