CIVIC THEATRE
TO-NIGHT A&D MONDAY NIGHT "Don't try to be funny until you are an accomnlished student of the drama." This 'has long been the counsel advanced by theatrical directors who hold", from sound expenence, that good comedy is far m'ore dlfficult to achieve than drama. Advice to the contrary notwithstanding, some time back the Messr.s. Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse took Joseph .Kesselring' s "ArseniC :and Oid Lace," originally written as a straight melodrama. and turned it iiito an hilarious comedy hit which fan on Broadway for over four years. The fact ls, even Kesselring didn't know about the transition until opening night. The comedy runs at the Givic Theatre, Otaki, on Saturday and Monday.
