• - f r ' ■. r., griffith jones in the lime - light Grifflth. Jones, the GaumontBritish star, was born in London on November 19, 1910, and educated at University College, London. He intended to become a lawyer, but gave this up in f avour of acting. He left the university to take a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. • ' It was in 't"Escape Me Never," with Elizabeth Bergner on the stage, that he made his, first big success, a success he repeated in New York in 1935. His many successful plays include "After October,". "Farewell Performance," ' "Gertie . MaudO," "Operette," and "Behold the Bride," with Luis Rainer. Hei began film work in 1932 and notabie pictures include the screen Version of "Escape Me Never." '"A Yank at Oxford," "Atlantic Ferry," "This Was Paris" and "Uncensored." He joined the Army in 1942 and was allowed leave to play the Belgian priest in "Uneensored." He was later invalided out of the Army. i Immediately after he had finished his role in "The Wieked Lady," Jones joined the cast'of yLady Windermere's Fan" at thq Haymarket Theatre. Grifflth Jones is 6ft. 2in. in height, with light brown hair and grey eyes. He is married, has two children, and lives in London.
