"To-night's the Night," an original screen story by Edward , Huebsch, was purchased by Columbia. It has not as yet been i assigned to any producer. , Judy Canova has reported to , Columbia Pictures to begin work in ] her third picture at that studio.lt will be "Ghost Town," a mtlslcal , with a Western background, which is to be produced by Ted Richmond. Miss Canova's two previous pictures , wert "Lousiana Hayride and "Hit the Hay." When feminine members on the set of "Gallant Journey" heard that , Glenn Ford was . chosen "Man of the Year" by the Bobby Soxers, they decided to recognise the event, and Glenn was greeted by cries of "Oh, Glenny!" by the entire company who were wearing bobby sox. After completing her role in "Life with Father" young Elizabeth Taylor, the British-born child actress, will spend a holiday in England. Edward G. Robinson, his wife and teens-age son are spending two months cruising around the Hawaiian Islands. Edward G. speaks highly of the talents of young Elizabeth Taylor. "She is a born actress and her future in the films is particularly bright. She is a lovable child." he said. Richard Carlson, who was discharged from the U.S. Navy last month, will travel from Hollywood to Britain for R.K.O.'s "So Well Remembered," in which he costars with America's Martha Scott and England's John Mills. He is due to leave for England this month. Comedian Cora .Witherspoon returns to the New York stage in a musical show, after completing her part as a support in the romantic fantasy, "Down to Earth." This will be her first musical show since "Say When!" in which she appeared with Bob Hope and Harrv Richman, a number of years ago. Melvyn Douglas' first picture for Columbia will be "My Empty Heart," starring opposite Rosalind Russell. Melvyn Douglas is just out of the Army. Connie Lee is writing an original story titled "Blondie's Holiday'_' to serve as the basis for the nine- i teenth picture in the "Blondie" series. The eighteenth, "Blondie Knows Best," is curreiitly in production, with Arthur Lake and Peniiy- Singleton playing their accustomed roles. ' Here's 1 -one wa-y ' of - becomhig a; recording artist. D6/ what Titd Guizar did." He ju'st* bought an interest in the Mercury Recording Company of Chicago. Tito's voice has thrilled millions via his appearances on various radio shows. The first disc to be recorded by Guizar will be "Copacabana," the song which he sings in the musical film, "Tlirill of Brazil." Ingrid Bergman s Swedish accent, which she has been ridding herself of for the last two years, is being acquired by Loretta Young for her co-starring rola with Joseph Cotten and Ethel Barrymore in "Katie for Congress." Miss Young is being taught to speak with a Scandinavian accent by Ruth Roberts, the diction expert who has been "de-accentising" Miss Bergman.
