Personal Mr, and Mrs. Les Smith, of Te Horo, have just received word that their son, Flight-Lieut. K! B. Smith, will not be returning to New Zealand for the present. FlightLieut. Smith has accepted * a permanent commission with the R.A.F. flying Lancasters. Miss Margaret Scrimshaw, of Hamilton, well-known. exponent and teacher of ballet, sailed by the Rangitihi recently for England to further her studies at the Int.ernational School of Ballet, London. Miss Scrimshaw who is a daughter of Hamilton's Deputy-Mayor, Mr. E. G. Scrimshaw, and Mrs. Scrimshaw, expects to be away for about 1 year. In her absence, Miss Audrey Wilton, M.R.A.D. Adv., of Palmerston North, will be principM of her School of Ballet. Heavy Rain in Otaki For the 24 hours up to 9 o'clock this morning .59 inches of rain fell. This was accompanied by thunder and lightning, while a heavy fall oi snow has occurred on the ranges. New Premises Mr. J. Rountree, who has been in business at Otaki Railway with marked success, has now removeci vO new and more commodious premises opposite his old site. Here he is making a display of goods ;hat are offered at lowest prices. The variety of articles is numcrou.s, aisd inspection is invitecl. Otaki Sporfing A recent addition to W. McEwan's tcam at Otaki is Peter Gazille who was formerly trained at Riccarton. Peter Gaziile is a five-year-old gelding by Pink Coat and won twice in his last three starts. He has not raced since tlie New Year meetings. The Otaki trainer A. W. Quinlivan has secured a leaso of Yes Tor, from Mr. C. M. Emanuel, Auckland. Yes Tor is a seven-year-old maro by Leighon from Dut--chess's Daughter.
