On July 26, 1938, a ntail serviee ot U-d for each half-ounee was inaugurated by Britain so that letters were taken by air as a nprntal means of transit wherever Empire air rdutes existed. Be'fore the war this serviee also inelurted the trans-Tasman airmail serviee.
