WELLINGTON, August 27. Mr. E. P. Adermau (X'ew Plymoutli) in an urgent question in tlie Hguse asked whether retailers would be refundcd the amounts of saies tax wliiclt had been paid prior to August 1(3, on "goods which are now exempt. Mr. Aderman said retailers were obliged to pay the saies tax on goods which had not been delivered and if the retailer were not reimbursed, the incrcased cost would be passed on to the consumer. Hon. W. Xash replied that where the tax had been correctly paid at the time of purehase by a retailer from a licensed wholesaler in New Zealand or at the time of importation and entry by a retailer, there was no means by which a refund of such tax could now be granted. However, the saies tax was not payable on goods covered by the resolutions, which were imported prior to August .10 but entered for home consumption on or after that date.
