(3) For how long did John Katan stand up. to Lofty Blomfield's octopus clamp? The first answer is yes. Lou Newman once defeated Earl McCready on points at Christchurch "on June 20. In a later bout McCready proved his superiority in iefeating Newman by two falls to one. (2) Jackie Patterson is the mly British boxer to hold a world bitie. He reigns champion of the flyweight class. (3) Katan stood up to Lofty Blomfield's octopus clamp for nearly three minutes in a bout at Wellington. This is the longest time any man has withstood this hold.
Last week's inter-club match between Levin and Mangaore ladies had to be postponed owing to the bad weather. It is hoped to arrange another date for this match when weather conditions are more settled. This week's competition is the fourth and final round of the captaip's trophy in the form of a bogey matcli. All players are urged to liaiid in . their cards; as the winner is decided from the best three cards out of four rounds as was previously mentioned- in these notes. Tlie draw, is as follows: Mrs. Hastedt and Mrs. Kelk, Miss Herrick and Mrs. M. Wilson, Mrs. Denton and Mrs. Frederikson, Mrs. Keenaii' and Mrs.. Lynch, Mrs. Richards and Mrs. Wyatt, Mrs. Ryder and Mrs. Black, Mrs. Hunter and Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Standen and Mrs. Cameron, Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. Nichols. At the week-end: Mrs. Franklin and Mrs. Porter, Mrs. Alexander and Mrs. Walker, Miss P. Wilson and Miss Nalder. The- draw for C grade players is as follows: Mrs. Coutie and Mrs. Sorenson, Miss Evison and Miss Franklin, Miss N. Walker and Mrs. Reakes, Miss Kilsby and marker. Last Saturday's C grade match was won by Mrs. Coutie with a nett score of 52. Miss Walker's card was next best, followed by Miss Kilsby. The Hunter Buttons changed hands during the week. The challengers, Mesdames Franklin and Richards were successful in defeating the holders, Mesdames Hastedt. and Wilson, in a keen tussle, the | result being in doubt until the last green. The next challenge on the list is from Miss Herriek and Mrs. Frederikson, who will do their best to wrest the buttons from the new holders.
