VICEROY VISITS RIOT AREAS
MOSLEM AND HINDU REFUGEES SEEN Received Ylouday, 11.32 p.m. XEW DELHI, August 26. It is officiaily reported that the casnalties from rioting whieh broke out in the old eitv after the announceinent of the interim Cabinet, are now four killed and 64 injured. Arined police are patrolliug the eity. ffhouts of " Fight to obtain pakistan " greeted Lord Wavell when, after tiying from New Delhi, he visited the Moslem refugee centre during a tour of Calcutta's riot areas, says Reuter's correspondent. Later when he entered the llindu refugee centre, he met with shouts of "Victory to India," wliich is the war c ry of the l.XT.A. The eentres organised for riot victiins reek strongly of D.D.T. aiul other .lisinfcctants and house 7000 of a total of 12,000 ret'ugees. Lord Wavell left for New Delhi this afternoon. A seriously injured victim of the riots is at present recovering in hospital after nine days in a eity sewer. He was found about a mile from the place wheie he was attacked on August 16. Forty-five bodies have been recovered from sewers.
