JUNIOR CHAMBERS MEET

CONVENTION IN LEVIN ENJOYABLE WEEK-END SPENT , Perfect weather on Saturday morning saw the opening of the week-end district convention held in Levin by the various branches of the Junior Chambers of Commerce. Representatives were present from the Canterbury, Christchurch, Hutt Valley, Levin, Wellington and New Zealand National Junior Chambers. The members entered into the discussions with a friendly atmosphere and each speaker made his point clear to the assembly in as few words as possible; The main ideas of the convention were to create a spirit of friendliness, to discuss several remits and to make the Junior Chambers more proficient in the matters which are dealt with by the Junior Chambers. The convention was officially opened by the Mayor (Mr. H. B. Burdekin) , who said that he was very pleased to have the privilege of addressing the " assembly, and hoped that the visitors' stay in Levin would be a pleasurable one. . Mr. Burdekin said that the world to-day was essentially a young man's world, and that the Junior Chambers in New Zealand- had been formed at a time when they were most needed. The whole idea behind the movement seemed to be the serving of the community as a whole, and the proper appreciation of the other person's point of view. He concluded by saying that already the Levin Junior Chamber was doing good work and sponsoring worthy objects, and that in time it would be a great force in the community. The chairman, Mr. J. Heineman, ' of Wellington, said that the Junior - Chamber deemed it an honour that ! the Mayor should open the con- : vention and that it was a great ' tribute to the Levin Junior Cham- ' ber.
