A programme of music will be rendered in the Public Gardens from 2.30 p.m. Escapee Recaptured A series of car conversions at Taumarunui early yesterday culminated in the arrest at Taihape later of Paul Roger Devenish who escaped from Hautu prison camp near Tokoanui last Friday. Three cars are alleged to have been used by Devenish in his flight. He was arrested as he stopped the car for repairs. Watts (Riccarton) in Parliament yesterday asked the Minister of Customs whether he would consider an increase in the allocation of licences for the importation of children's toys from Great Britain for the Christmas trade. He added that the British manufacturers were anxious to export complete and "broken down" toys. The range of New Zealand-made toys was very narrow. The import aflocation for 1946 was 20 per cent. of the 1938 importation for mechanical toys only, and other kinds of toys were on the deferred list.
