ADVANCE OTAKI RAILWAY
A FLOTBISHING CENTRE Now that the road at Otaki Rail-j way is to be widenea, extensive j improvements are being carried out ' at Otaki Railway by the erectton of j two modern shops, built in a j thorougMy workmanlike style, with ; every necessary fitting, etc. Mr. A. j D. V/ebster has spared no troubie] or expense in improving the local- j ity, and one shop has now been I taken over by Mr. Rowntree, where | full stocks of groceries, etc., are ! attractively set out. The area of ; the shops is seventy feet by j twenty-eight, having imposing \ entrances, necessary shelving, etc. The new shop adjacent to Mr. | Rountree's, is to be for Mr. Patj Hobson, who will have a fish, grillj and supper room. By the erection j of the two shops the roadway will ! be set back fifteen feet, thus j relieving congestion and making j the dangerous corner — entrance to 1 railway station where so many I accidents have occurred — quite safe. Mr. Rountree's old shop is j being demolished in record time j and a start will be made with Dow- ; sett's drapery shop, and Mr. Rule's j ehemist shop at an early date. | 3oth will be shifted back some fif- j teen feet, and the latter in the, meantime will take up business in i one of the new shops, while every j ! provision will be made for the \ drapery store. The latter is also to j occupy part of one of the new 1 (hops. Some nine feet are to be taken off the Ideal Tea-rooms (Mr. Debreceny's) corner, and thus allow for a 66ft. road. This will also be the means of improving the dangerous corner. Mr. Webster expects that the whole of the work will be -completed by December, and when j fmished no doubt his enterprise j will be fully appreciated.
