RECORD OF SURPEEN
Surpcen, who gavc a hue display of jumping when he ran second to Brookby Song in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup on Saturdav, is now trained by M. E. Kitchic at Ellerslie. Bv Surveyor from an unnaiyed mare, who produeed Valpeen, winner of the Grand National Steeplechase in 1934 and 1935, and the Great Northern Steeplechase in 1934, Surpeen had not- raced for two years. Surpeen had one race as a three-year-old, but did not start again until he was live. when he ran two thirds in 11. starts. 14e contested 20 raees at six years and 15 at seven. His prineipal wius were in the Mangere Haek Steeplechase, the St. Heliers Hack Hurdles and the Waikato -Hunt Cup. As an eight-year-old in 1944, Surpeen faOed to complete the course in the Pakuranga llunt Cup, and did not race again until last Saturday. Surpeen has contested 49 races for four firsts, flve seconds aud 14 thirds, and £2650 in stakes. He is to eontest the EgmontWanganui llunt Cup Steeplechase at New Plymouth to-morrow and. looks to have a second-to-noue chauee.
