DANNEVIRKE, Aug. 23. After having -again discussed the shortage of nurses, the Dannevirke -Hospital Board has decided to make representations to the Department of Health, through the Hospital Boards' Association, 'with a view to obtaining exemption for nurses from the payments oi" Social Security taxes as a means of encouraging girls joining the fession.Prevloxisly --the - chairman of the board. I don't think the offer of free stockings and ward shoes will tempt girls into hospitals, but I do think the Government should cohsider the advisability of exempting nurses in training from paying National and Social Security." He added that a nurse in secondyear training had her salary reduced by four per cent. for superannuation and ten per cent. for National and Social Security, and yet could claim only one benefit.
