Sabotage In Palestine PROTEST AT DEPORTATIONS

Saboteurs caused two . minor explosions below the waterline of. the 'troopship Empire Riva'l lying off Ha-ifa -harbdur, reports the Assoeiated Press correspondent. Divers found a hole eight feet hy * three feet. •Reutef's correspondent says the 'explosions occurred after the gua-rd fired on three swimmers seen near the ship shortly before midnight. Limpet mmes detonated half an hour later. The ship's after hold 'began to fill but the bulkheads "were closed and .the ship moved to shallow waters. % 'The saboteurs were successfu'l despite precautions including the -frequent dropping of small depth charges from warships in Haifa Bay and the imposition of a water curfew. . c The iEmpire Heywood wherein an explosion occurred on August. 18, is still lying off Haifa. There is no indication when she will sail for 'Cyprus. „ The British closed all roads leading to Haifa for 3-2- hours to 9 a.m. Haganah radio, "Voice .of Israel," announced that members of the Jewis'h resistance movement sabotaged the Empire Rival, and they were also responsible for the bomb in the Empire Heywood on August 18. The radio added that members of the resistance movement would continue the activity as long as the deportations of Jews went unstopped. A message from Trieste-says that the British First Armoured Division is going from Italy to relieve the Six-th Airborne Division in Palestine. This was -announced by an Allied military spokesman.
