SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL

FORTNIGIITLY MEETING The Shannon Borough Councii held their usual fortnigntly meeting on Tuesday evening. Those present were the Mayor (Mr. R. E. Downes) and Crs. R. R. Lind, C. Wishart, Perry, J. Curran *and D. Higgie. The town clerk. (Mr. J. T. Bovisi and the borough foreman (Mr. F. Haleyl were aiso present. Apologies for absence were received from Crs. J. A. Roach and H. Aitchison. Applications for metal for footparns from the road to their gaieways were received from residents in Newtown, Ballance Street and Vogei Street. As this was a request for the usual load of melal. the applications were granted. The town clerk advised that 100 books had arrived for the library. Cr. Lind stated that the thanks of the councii were due to Cr. Higgie for the . use of a horse for borough work. Cr. Lind pointed out that the councii was experiencing difficulty in obtaining a suitable horse. The town clerk pointed out that he had advertisea, out without satisiactory resuit. Following a short discussion, the matter was left in the hands oi Cr. Lind to make further investigations. A tender for £672 7s was received for the topdressing of footpaths in the borough. The town clerk reported that owing to the reduction in saies tax, ihe tender would be reduced by about £60. The councii was of the opinion that the cost was beyond the financial means of the borough, and it was thought that the work could be carried out more economically by the borough staff by doing the most essential portions as funds became available. ' It was reported that a culvert in Grey Street was not allowing a free passage of water, owing to the roots of a willow tree growing inio the culvert. The borough foreman . was instructed to make an inspec1 tion. ' Accounts amounting to £121 0s 3d ' were passed for payment.
