CAR CRASHES DOWN BANK
ONE KILLED; TWO INJURED WHANGAREI, Aug. 20. Thrown from a car when it somersaulted down a 60-foot bank, one man was killed and another seriously injured near Riponui last night. They were: — Killed: Dennis Herdman, 59, stoek buyer for Thomas Bofthwick, Ltd., of Whangarei. Injured: Charles Finlayson, 50, farmer, of Purua; abrasions and possible fracture of the skull; condition serious. Graham Finlayson, farmer, of Ngararatumua, slight injuries. Herdman was driving along between Hukerenui and Riponui, when the car plunged down a bank, the three occupants being thrown from the vehicle before it came to rest on its wheels at the bottom. Herdman was a son of Mr. Justice Herdman., and was a returned servicemen of both wars.
