Personal Mrs. J. Chambers, of Mangaore, left this morning on a hoiiday tnp. to. Christchurch.^ Mrs. Bryan Clayton and her infant daughter returned liome on Sunday. Mr. Pat Roach, of Wellington, Ispent the week-end with his parients, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Roach, jStout Street. The friends of Mr. J. A. Roach ; will regret ro hear that he is stiii [suffering ill health and is confined ;to his bed. His many friends join 'in wishing him a speedy recovery. The friends of Mr. C. C. King, the postmaster, Will regret to hear j that he is not enjoying the best of j health. It is understood that Mr. i j King will be off duty for a number i 'of weeks. Mr. and Mrs. M. Jensen, of Ballance Street, have much pleasure in announcing th'e engagement of ' their second daughter, Minnie ' Johanna, to Athol Lewis, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Marsh, of j ■ Dannevirke. Mr. Leo Carter, of Moutoa, who j was involved in a motor accident ! : last week and is now an inmate of j Ithe Palmerston North Hospital, is j : stated to be quite cheerful ; although his injuries will necessilate his remaining in hospital for ; some considerable time. i Cribb Winners : There was another good gather- I ing at the' weekly cribb tourna--! ment, / conducted by the local ! branch of the Home Services j Association in Laurvig's Hall last : week. The winners were Mrs. R. i Andrew and Mr. V. McEwan. i 1 Euchre Winners Prize-winners at the Friday j evening euchre tournament, heid ; in Laurvig's Hall by the local branch of the Labour Party, were , Mrs. V. McEwan and Mr. A. Mc- j Laggan. Mr. McLaggan also won i : the points prize conducted over the ; past six weeks. i North-South Match Popular j Shannon was well represented at i : the North-South rugby match at . Wellington on Saturday. The bus j

A motonst was surpnsed on a rccent evening when between Shannon and Tokomaru a dog , carrying something large in its j mouth came into the view of his headlights. Closer observation j showed that it was a whole lamb. | Sheep worrying by dogs is fairly j prevalent at this time of the year. ! and it would appear that the dog j in question had almost certainly j been on such a mission. . j
