MOST SUCCESSFUL CHASER AT RICCARTON

For a coniparative beginner, Page's Raid made a first-class job of jumping the Riccarton country when he won the Enfield Steeplechase, the Beaufort iSteeplechase and * the Lincoln Steeples at the Grand Natioual meeting, but in each caso his stamina was thc decidiug factor. Qn each occasion he was doing his best work over the business e'nd. Page's Raid made his debut as a 'cliaser at the Birchwood Hunt Club's meeting last Al.arch and finislied a poor third to Lisheen and Sister Modesta, but he was equal to a winning ell'ort at his third attemxit in the role — in the Otaitai Steeplechase at Riverton. Ile lias started 11 times over country and his rccord is four firsts, two seconds, tliree thirds and two uiiplaced pcrfonnances — not a bad record for a newcomcr. Page's Raid is bred on excellent jumping lines. Ile is by Night Raid, who sired many horses of stamina, including some good jumpcrs. His dain, Royal Coat, is by Pinlc Coat (by II nnting Song) from Lady Tliurnhapi, by Thurnham, aiiother successful sire of juinpers, Wharnclill'e and Houiislovv being two of his progeny who won Llie Grand Natioual Hiiidles. Roval Coat is a lialf-sistor to Leopardstown, a useful jumper who carried Mr. J. II. Grigg's colours. Page's Raid lias not been overraced, and being onlv seven years old, he appears to liave tlie best xiart of his career ahead of him.
