FUTURE OF DARDANELLES
TURKEY WILL REJECT SOVIET PROPOSALS Received Monday, 7 p.m. LONDON, August 19. Turkey's reply to Russia about the Dardanelles has been drawn up after consultation with Britain, America and
France and will be submitted on August 20 to the Government and Republican People's Party, says the Daily Express Istanbul correspondent. Ii approved it will be handed to the Sovie„ Ambassador. Turkish newspapers forecast- a rejection of the Soviet proposal for a share in the Dardanelles defence and for control of the Black Sea. Excitemenl caused by Soviet Notes is unabated, the Press puhlishing large extracts of British, American and French comments and emphasising the inadmissible nature of the Soviet' s d'emands. Well informed quarters are of opinion that the reply will, firstly, rebut Soviet allegations of Turkish partiality f».vouring German and Italian ships during the war; sficondly, reject the demands; and, thirdly, express willingness to amend the Montreaux ConventiW with Afiierican participation along the lines of safeguarding Turkey's I sovereign rights.
