AUCKLAND, August 19. Miners ceased work at the MacDon ald mine, Huntly, today, for the 31st time since January, following a dispute over the time at which wages were to be available. An official of the company, Glen Afton Collieries, Ltd., said it was not possible to pay wages before 2 p.m. owing to the shortage of clerical staff but the money was always paid out iu time for the "wet time" men to catch the 2.15 bus. The miners, at a meeting, protested against the refusal of the owners to make their wages available at 1.30 p.m. on Friday last for the men working in wet places. The pitmen went straight home after the meeting and there was no more work done at the mine. Inquiries show that the wages were paid at 2 p.m. on Friday and that dlChough the men have aslced for payment at 1.30 p.m. the first bu3 leaving the pit for Ihe miners' homes does not depart until 2.15 p.m.
