WELLINGTON, August IV. . c ..The. r r.esumP-t^oja of .Japanesg, whalBig activities is not viewed with any favoui by the New Zealand Government, saia the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) today when referring to reports tliat permission liad been granted by the Supfeme Commander for the Allied Powers for a fleet of Japanese whalers to take wliaJes in the Antarctic for the 19-lb'-47 season. The I'rinie Minister added that furtlier information was being sought on the matter, which was an important one and on which tliere should be agreeiuent lietweeii all the nations concerned "Japau has a bad record in the indus trv, " said Mr. Fraser. "She failed to accede to international conventions and the action of her whalers iri pre-wai years threatened the very existence oi the whaling industry. The position wili require to be watched most caref'ully. '
