FURTHERING SPORT IN LEVIN

CLUB DELEGATES TO MEET PLAN TO IMPROVE FACILITIES A meeting of delegates from all sports bodies in the Levin district will be held in the Oddfellows' Hall on Wednesday evening to discuss the formation of an association of sports bodies. The move, which is being sponsored by the Levin Combined Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, has for its aims the bringing of all different branches of sport, botl? ri outdoor and indoor, under the con- > trol of a parent body. Although clubs will retain their individual status, they will be guided by the parent body, which in turn will be responsible for the provision of facilities to allow the clubs to function more successfully than they have done in the past. The idea the sponsors have in view, Mr. F. D. Chainey, sjponsor of ' the meeting told "The Chronicle," is the building on Playford Park of a gymnasium large enough to provide a football practice area, indoor basketball, badminton, table tennis, baseball and squash racket courts, boxing facilities and the provision of the necessary material' for •physical culture exercises and miniature rifle range, while outdoors it is hoped to lay down first class tennis courts and a miniature golf course. Playford Park would make an ideal sports centre in conjunction with the motor camp, and it is to be hoped that Vhen the council is approached it will set aside an area for the use of the associated sports bodies to carry out their seheme. The sponsors realise tnat it will take a year or two to bring their plan to fruition, and that at least £3000 will be required for the completion of their aims, but with a subsidy from the Government and the offer of assistance from several citizens, all that is needed is a strong committee to be set up. and with an enthusiastic ladies com~" mittee to back them up the success of the venture will be assured.
