Foxchase and Bruce On the Flat

L.M

,M.)

(SPECIAL— FROM

WELLINGTON, This Day. The three days' Grand National meetirig, at Riccarton, "vvill be brought to a close to-morrow when the principal events onN the programme will be the Lincoln Steeplechase, the Sydenham Hurdles, Heathcote and Selwyn Handicaps. Financially, the meeting so far has proxred a great success and the racing has been of a particularly high standard.

The Lincoln Steeplechase, the main cross-country event, should see Page's Rair a solid favourite with the publ'ic, his success in the Beaufort Steeplechase last week being so easily accomplished that the extra half-mile should not trouble him. His jumping was clean and smart. Weight is likely to trouble Red Glare, but As Required, Spanish Main, Indian Sign, are not without good prospects if they stand up. Night Prince will more than likely start in the Hunt Cup. With that good grey horse Findon out of the way Foxchase should hold a good chance of winning the Heathcote Handicap, that is if he is kept ciear of trouble in the big field. If started here in preference

I Lo the Selwyn Handicap that conj sistent, but unlucky southerner ! Leigh Barton, will be respected, as also will Tribal Night in spite of his weight, Platform, Salary and Piccolo, but on last week's running Foxchase should hold the edge on Leigh Barton. Auother big field will parade in Ihe Selwyn Handicap, and the topweight Bruce, fresh and well forward is sure to be one of the fancied division, particularly so if Leigh Barton starts in the previous race. Tiger Tan, The Grand, Grill, John o' London and Karachi appeal as the select of the others on recent running. Lord Elgin, who is also engaged in the nack mile, j \v311 be making his debut in open | company in open company if j.i'ian-ed here, but it is more than | likely he will run out his hack i nommation to gain the services of ! W. Broughton. j On Grand National performance { Test Pilot and Dumbo are the pair ! likely to dispute favouritism in the i Sydenham Hurdles. Others to jcarry strong support will be Prize jRing, Blue Title, Hunting Mac and i Hasten.
