L0NDON, August 13. The Government is believe'd to' have decided to aholish capital punishment for a five-year triai period from the end of 1948, says Ihe Daily Mail. It is understood that the Home Secretary (Mr. Chuter Ede) will annoiurce the decisron when Parliament reassemhles in the autumn. The Plcme Secretary is helieved to have been inipressed hy the Prison Reforni Gommittee's investigation of the whole suhject of capital punishment, and to have persuaded his Cabinet colleagues to agree to the experiment. There has also heen great difficulty in findiug suitahle executioners.
