OT^AKI'S MONTHLY MEETING The inonthly meetin'g of the Otaki WomeiVs Tnstitute was held' ln tbe Anglican Hall on -Thursday afterho'on. There wa^ ' a good attendance. The meeting opened with the institute song. The president, Mrs. Lumley, then welcomed members and visitors. After the usual routine business, Mrs. Harrington gay.e-an interesting account of the Dominion conference meeting, held at Wellington recently. Mrs. Synnott was elected to represent the W.I. on the Otaki War Memorial Committe^, and a singing circle was formed to be mider the direction of Mr. H. Townrow. Mrs. Turnbull gave a report on the parcels for Britain and £3 was collected at the meeting for this purpose. Mrs. Adamson gave an interesting demonstration on patcn work, following this with an account of the winning of the Victoria Cross by Mr. Adamson's great uncle during the Maori War. Afternoon tea was thep servect Dy the hostesses, Mesdames Synnott, Simcox, Smethurst and Smith. The winners of the competitions were: — Best' flower: Mrs. Berry. Best shrub : Mrs. Percival. Knitted oonnet : Mrs. Ashwin. The afternoon was then brought to a close Avith the singing of the National Anthem.
