STATE HOUSING IN LEVIN
FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS "The fibrous plaster position is so acute all through the Doihinion that in order to get the houses completed in a measurable time the contractors have had to agree to the use of a substituting wall lining material," said His Worship the Mayor (Mr. H. B. Burdekin), when asked by a "Chronicle', representative if there had been any further developments in connection with ihe progress of the six State houses in Chamberlain Street. . Mr. Burdekin added that the coiitractors were now pushing ahead with the work. The question of whether the houses were to have shower cabinets or baths was still undecided, His Worship continued. He had asked the Assistaht-Director of Housing Construction (Mr. R. B. Hammond) that in view of the delay which had occurred in completing these units, a special effort should be made to procure baths for them. On Friday afternoon last, Mr. Burdekin said he had finally obtained. approval for the supply of three and a-half tons of cement especially for the foundations of the new State houses in Lincoln Place. It was confidently expected that the contractors would be starting the foundations of these units within the next fortnight.
